How to Become an Industry Expert? Embrace Continuous Learning

The Upside community is filled with more than 250 top independent consultants and business advisors who support and advance each other in business and beyond.

Although they are all industry experts, they never stop asking questions, connecting, learning or reaching for higher heights. That’s because they know this to be true:

The moment you stop learning is the moment you’re no longer an expert.

Experts are always learning and growing.
Experts have an insatiable appetite for knowledge.
Experts feel they can never know everything (but still try their darndest!).

So anytime you catch yourself thinking:

“I’m not really an expert because there is still so much I need to know and learn…”

Just remember that not knowing everything(but striving to) is exactly what makes you an expert at what you do and is exactly why clients want to work with you.

As much as I know about the business of consulting (and I know a LOT), I still…

…learn something new every single day.
…have a constant thirst for more knowledge.
…continuously work hard to be at the top of my field.

And if you ever meet a consultant or advisor who claims to know everything and has no structures in place for continuous learning, then you know you’ve met someone who is not at all an expert.

You are an expert because even though you don’t (and can’t) know it all, you have a burning desire to learn everything you can about your subject matter expertise and continuously work to expand your areas of knowledge.

YOU, my friend, are an expert. Always remember that and never let anyone (or even your own negative thoughts) make you feel otherwise.
